SOURCE Throughout northern USA & Canada. DESCRIPTION Birdseye Maple is cream to light reddish-brown heartwood. Although maple’s grain is usually straight and smooth the birdseye figuring can be combined with blister, quilt, fiddleback or burl grain, scattered over the entire tree or in irregular stripes and patches. Rotary cutting highlights these characteristics. Color Range: N. American Maple
comes in an extreme range of color variability as the wood varies in color from
the pale cream colored sapwood on through to the different tan/brown tones to
dark brown colors found in the heartwood. APPLICATIONS Uses for this wood include furniture, paneling and musical instruments. High grade cabinetry and conference tables also utilize this unique wood using a veneer. Hard Maple’s popularity has soared in recent years, both in kitchen cabinetry and fine furniture-making. Hard Maple has been traditionally used for implement and machinery parts, turnery, wooden dishes, and a variety of planing mill products.
