Bubinga

DESCRIPTION

Bubinga is red with streaks of lines of dark purple. The pattern is stripy and heavy, with conspicuous pores. Pomele Bubinga has a large scale wavy figure. Bubinga is both flat cut and figured. Kevazingo is the rotary cut version of the same species. Bubinga has earned a worldwide reputation as a very fine cabinet wood. It was popular in the furniture of the French Renaissance and is considered excellent for fancy turnery work. Bubinga has a superficial resemblance to Rosewood, but is finer textured. Works, glues, and finishes like Hard Maple.

Color Range: Bubinga is typically very uniform in color and graining. 

Color Change: Bubinga undergoes a medium degree of color change, from a pinkish rose color when freshly milled to a burgundy red color when fully aged. 

APPLICATIONS

Select logs are sliced for highly decorative uses. Bubinga is a favored choice for cabinetry, paneling and doors. A fine cabinet wood. Overall color, after some exposure, is a deep, opulent-looking red, sometimes displaying fine, evenly spaced lines of darker hue.
